This Spitfire Mk IXE is as deployed by 127 Wing of 443 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force in Belgium, 1945. In March 1945, 443 Squadron moved to the Belgian/Dutch border in preparation for the final offensive. The Spitfire LF Mk IXE was fitted with more powerful Merlin engines and had had modifications to the airframe to accomodate them. It also featured the later styled clipped wings. The plane is in the dark grey/dark green camouflage scheme with pale grey underside. It has the black and white invasion bands on the underside of the wings and fuselage which were added to avoid ‘friendly fire’ and the Royal Canadian Air Force roundels. Nicknamed ‘The Hornets’ the Squadron insignia is printed on the port side.
